Top 10 Email List Starter Kits in 2026: Comprehensive Review & Comparison

By The Upward Co. · Published 25 October 2026 · Listings and ratings read 23 to 25 Oct 2026

We compared the top 10 email list starter kits in 2026 for an owner starting from zero: our own kit, Etsy and Gumroad template packs, four well-known books and the free plans of two email tools. Each entry links to its listing for the current price, and shows what you actually get, and what buyers say is missing.

We make one of these. The Upward Co. makes and sells The Email List Starter Kit, ranked #1 below. We earn nothing from the other nine and none of them paid to be here.

What this review is based on: each product's own listing, the seller's page and published buyer reviews, read between 23 and 25 Oct 2026. We have not bought or tested the other nine products. Our own kit we know page by page because we made it.

How we ranked these email list starter kits

We looked for what buyers of email list starter kits complain about in low-star reviews, then ranked each product on four things:

  1. Gets your first emails written: the most common gap in low-star reviews of email books.
  2. Shows the setup: how to switch the emails on in an email tool.
  3. Price: including free options.
  4. Buyer proof: ratings and written reviews we could read.

Ranking our own kit was the hard part. We put it where the evidence above puts it, and we list its drawbacks next to everyone else's. Where a rival is the better choice for a reader, the entry says so.

Buyer rating
No reviews yet (new kit)
Best for
An owner with no list yet who wants welcome emails written and switched on this week

What we built it to do

  • Five welcome emails written word for word (day 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7): fill the gold blanks and paste
  • A page that walks you through switching all five on in a free email tool, in about 15 minutes
  • A Start Here sheet tells you which file to open first, so you never need to read it all
  • $17 once; or $37 with the other two business kits

Minor considerations

  • You still need an email tool. MailerLite (#2) and Kit (#5) have free plans.
  • No buyer reviews yet. The Upstrider guide at #3 has 169 reviews at 5.0.

Why #1: The books on this list are strong on strategy, and their low-star reviewers ask for written emails and setup steps ("I was expecting email templates"). This kit hands over both. It has no reviews yet.

Email List Starter Kits: FAQ

What is an email list starter kit?

A set of templates, guides and checklists for someone starting an email list from zero. The useful ones hand you written welcome emails and show you how to switch them on in an email tool.

What is the best email list starter kit in 2026?

If you want your first five emails written and set up this week, our Email List Starter Kit ($17). If you want strategy in a book, 300 Email Marketing Tips (Kindle). Pair either with a free email tool such as MailerLite. We make the Email List Starter Kit.

Can I start an email list for free?

Yes. Kit is free up to 10,000 subscribers and MailerLite up to 250 subscribers, with automations on MailerLite's free plan. You still have to write the emails, which is what kits and books help with.

How many emails should a welcome sequence have?

Five over the first week is a common shape, and it is the one our kit uses: welcome, quick win, story, common question and a soft offer on day 7. Several books here also teach a welcome sequence.

Do I need Canva email templates?

Only if you want designed layouts. Template packs such as PixelPalaceDesignUK's are designs; the seller says they include no written email words and no setup support.

How long does it take to set up a welcome sequence?

Our kit's setup page puts it at about 15 minutes in a free email tool once the emails are written. Writing them from scratch takes longer, which is the gap most low-star book reviews describe.

How did you rank these email list starter kits?

We read each listing, the seller's page, the tools' pricing pages and the published buyer reviews between 23 and 25 Oct 2026, then ranked on written emails, setup help, price and buyer proof. We did not buy or test the other nine.

Verdict

Starting from zero? Get the Email List Starter Kit for the five welcome emails and the setup page, open a free MailerLite or Kit account, and switch them on this week. Keep a book such as 300 Email Marketing Tips for the strategy later.
